Jana's Biography:Jana was born on January 1, 2006. Her name is the feminine of Janus, the ancient Roman god of the new year. The name seemed quite appropriate, since the month of January derives its name from this two-faced Roman god, whose one visage looks at the departing old year, while the other gazes at the arriving new year.Since she was the first lamb of the season, and it was more than a month until other lambs started appearing, she had to entertain herself. As she had no ovine playmates those first few weeks, she took to chasing chickens. She seemed to find this pursuit quite enjoyable; I think the hens had a different perspective, though. Jana had a baby of her own in April 2007: a little white ewe lamb that we named Sapphira. In February 2009, she had a black ram lamb, named Coriander. Jana’s fleece is beautiful – a combination of light and dark gray, silver, and tawny. |
