"Captain Jack" Bracelet

Who doesn't want Captain Jack?

I wove this bracelet using 40 cards and 160 individual threads. The lustrous multicolored thread background makes the words practically jump out.

Tablet (or card) weaving creates narrow bands of cloth. The weaving method was used extensively in northern Europe during the Middle Ages. Archaeologists have found tablet-woven bands dating to the 3rd century A.D. (C.E.). Weaving tablets have been found dated to about 400 B.C. (B.C.E.). Tablet weaving was also practiced in Egypt, China, and Japan.

Although today tablets are usually made from cardboard, in medieval Europe they were constructed from wood, ivory, bone, horn, leather, and a variety of other materials.

Tablet weaving produces a double-thick, warp-faced fabric.
